GreenEarth Cleaning is the world’s largest brand of environmentally friendly dry cleaning. The GreenEarth brand name refers to an exclusive dry cleaning process that replaces the petrochemical solvents traditionally used in dry cleaning with liquid silicone. Liquid silicone is an odorless, colorless solution that is an excellent carrier for detergents, has ideal properties for fabric care and is better for the environment. The GreenEarth Cleaning process is patented, and its name and logo are trademarked (there are no “generic” forms of GreenEarth). Any dry cleaning in silicones (in any percentage) is covered under GreenEarth’s intellectual property.

Founded in 1999, GreenEarth Cleaning is the world’s largest brand of green dry cleaning.

For decades, customers and dry cleaners had no real choice but to clean clothes in harsh, petrochemical solvents with known health and environmental risks. GreenEarth is an environmentally safe dry cleaning process that replaces petroleum-based solvents with liquid silicone, a gentle solution made from one of the earth’s safest and most abundant natural resources: silica, or sand.

We are a company created and run by former dry cleaners. As dry cleaners, we worked hard, and successfully, to reduce emissions and control many of the risks associated with the use of petrochemical solvents. But we always hoped for a better alternative. One that would meet the needs of customers and dry cleaners while protecting the communities in which we live.

GreenEarth was discovered by a scientist working with a solution used in cosmetics who realized it was removing the fats and dirt from his hands without drying them out. He wondered if it could do the same for clothes. Silicone has been around for a long time and has a wide variety of uses, but no one had found a way to use it for dry cleaning. The process of doing so was patented and now forms one of several baseline patents for the GreenEarth Cleaning system. It cleans as effectively as traditional dry cleaning without costing more to operate. Even more remarkable, it can actually improve the look and feel of fabrics.

GreenEarth Cleaning licenses to quality dry cleaners operating more than 1,500 stores worldwide. In return for an annual licensing fee, we provide Affiliates with the rights to use our patented process and the trademarks that describe it, along with technical, operating and marketing support. To ensure that our Affiliates benefit from the latest cutting-edge and clean technologies, we have partnered with a number of leading companies, including Procter & Gamble, General Electric, Xeros and the industry’s foremost detergent and equipment manufacturers.

Better for the environment. Better for clothes. No teas-ing.

GreenEarth is more than an ecologically safe alternative to perc. It is actually better for fabrics. And that’s not just our opinion, it’s science. You see solvents are not strong or weak on their own. They are only a carrier. Their “strength” is measured by how well they work in combination with additives to dissolve the materials that need to be dissolved without dissolving the materials that need to be protected.

There is actually a complex formula, called the Teas diagram, that explains solvent molecular interactions with complex science like Quantum Mechanics and Cohesive Energy Density. But all you really need to understand is that GreenEarth’s liquid silicone doesn’t work alone, it is part of a specially designed cleaning system with the silicone, the detergent and the machine programs.

The magic of the GreenEarth system is the unique way it has been designed to work with detergents and the cleaning action of dry cleaning machines to remove stains and soil from fabric fibers without “touching” them. Think of it as having the ability to use a scalpel for stain surgery when everyone else is still using a machete. The “molecular magic” of our cleaning chemistry has been customized with the help of the world’s leading detergent manufacturer, Procter & Gamble. And through science and testing, we have perfected the calibration programs to run the machines. Result? The GreenEarth Cleaning system loosens and removes soil particulate from fabrics without degrading or damaging textile fibers. Fabrics are cleaner, fresher, and last longer.

In all the talk about “sustainable businesses”, an important issue often overlooked is the sustainability of the green business itself. Green products and services usually cost more to deliver, but few consumers are willing to pay more for them. When going green puts business owners in the red, businesses can’t survive, and that doesn’t help the environment.

The built-in advantage of GreenEarth is that it is the only green dry cleaning system that doesn’t cost any more to use. Machines that can run with silicone solvent are no more expensive than traditional dry cleaning machines and they can be configured to operate with less energy and expense using new cold filtration technologies. Clothes processed in GreenEarth come out with less static, lint, wrinkling or the need for special handling, reducing the time and expense of processing and finishing. With productivity and operating efficiencies like these, going green with GreenEarth can actually improve your bottom line.
